Overview
The city of Mason City is seeking a highly motivated individual for their 2017 Summer Internship. This internship will run from May - August.  (Dates are negotiable)

This internship will run in conjunction with college requirements and will be 40 hours per week.  $480 per month minimum compensation.

Ideal candidates are students in the Parks and Recreation or Leisure, Youth and Human Services majors; with a desire to pursue a career in this field upon graduation.

Duties
Intern will work directly under the Recreation Superintendent and Recreation Programmers.
Design and implement a unique program or event from start to finish.
Assist with existing recreational programs. (marketing, scheduling, supervising & evaluation)
Assist Office Manager with administrative duties. (registration, reservations & customer relations)
Attend city council meetings, board meetings and staff meeting throughout the summer.

SUMMER INTERN

Ankeny, Iowa

The city of Ankeny is seeking a highly motivated, energetic parks and recreation or sports management student to complete an internship with the City’s Parks and Recreation Department. Ankeny is a young, vibrant and growing community of over 55,000 people. It is located 15 miles north of Des Moines.

Interns will be involved in all aspects of the Parks and Recreation Department. This position will run from May 15 through August 11 (13 weeks). The intern must complete a minimum of 40 hours/week that encompasses days, nights and weekends.

Pay: $10 per hour

Intern Job Description:

·       Assist and or lead the development of recreation, cultural and special event programming.

·       Assist with front desk operations and customer service center.

·       Work with staff on special projects, including but not limited to: grant writing, fundraising, project management, tournament/event management, program evaluations, and goal setting.

·       Develop 3-5 new programs that are “turn-key” and ready for implementation.

·       Supervise and train seasonal staff.

·       Develop press releases, flyers and other promotional material for distribution.

·       Work in variety of department functions, including: programming, customer service, aquatics, special events, sports complex, and golf course.

Paid Position:  40 hours per week.  Wage- $10.25/hr.   

Job summary:
This internship position will provide a wide variety of recreation & facility management experience. This position will be asked to work a variety of hours including days, nights and weekends. Duties include opening, closing and general operations of the North Liberty Community Center. Experience gained in Recreation Administration, Programming for All Ages, Employee & Facility Management, and Special Events.  The recreation staff will come up with programs that the intern will be in charge of running and making sure the program goes as planned.   

Summary of essential job functions:

  • Responsibilities include direct facility supervision, patron discipline, computer/registration operations, programming and ability to work with a diverse and growing population
  • Minimum requirements
  • An internship requirement through an accredited university with a general working knowledge of computers and computer programs such as word, excel, and publisher. 

Abilities required:

  • Position requires individual to lift up to 50lbs and be able to interact with youth and adult activities

Job Summary: The Parks & Recreation Intern will assist the Recreation Supervisor with planning, coordinating, and administering youth and adult programs, and will assist with day-to-day administrative duties while completing college internship requirements.

Job Requirements:   Working toward or completed Bachelor’s Degree in Parks & Recreation, Leisure Studies or related field.  Experience working with children and adults.  Must possess a Valid Driver’s License and meet the requirements of the City’s motor vehicle policy.

Employment Status:  FLSA non-exempt

Rate of Pay:  $11.06-11.97/hour

Regular Hours:  Standard work hours will be approximately 40 plus hours per week and will include evenings and weekends.

SUMMER INTERN

Clive, Iowa

The city of Clive, Iowa is actively seeking an individual for the 2017 Parks and Recreation Summer Internship position.  Clive is one of the fastest growing cities in Iowa and is regarded by many as one of the most desirable areas in the Des Moines metropolitan area.

Duties: Working directly under the Parks and Recreation management, duties will include planning and coordinating recreation programs, administering programs, aquatics operations, administrative duties, daily operations, assist with special events and wellness activities, and opportunity for park maintenance. The position will include a wide range of activities from Clive’s aquatic facility to youth through adult programming and leagues.

City Requirements: An education major in recreation programming or sports management is a plus, but not required.  The intern must be sports/activity minded, and possess the ability and desire to work with people of all ages.   The position start date is in May and end date is mid-August with a minimum of 12 weeks and dates are negotiable.

The rate of pay is $10.75-$12.50 per hour based on qualifications.

INTERN

Under the supervision of the Director, Assistant Director or Parks Foreman, the Parks and Recreation intern will provide assistance with the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of recreation and aquatic programming.  Specific duties are discussed in interviews but may include the following: facilitating and/or instructing recreational activities (Tball, Blastball, Tennis, Mini Golf, Pickleball, Volleyball, Adult Softball, etc.) preparing and maintaining equipment, and projects in the general program/office administration.  This person will also spend time working with the Assistant Director, aiding in the day to day operations of the Vinton Aquatic Center & Parks Foreman assisting in park and trail maintenance and beautification, budget forecasting and administrations as well as marketing and promotion of department events
