The city of Ames is seeking an enthusiastic, outgoing, and passionate individual for the position of Recreation Manager.  This position is responsible for adult and youth sports & activities; hires, trains, and directs approximately 150 temporary staff throughout the year; develops and implements recreation programs, leagues, and activities for all ages; and recommends and administers the instructional and athletic program budgets.

Adult sports and activities programmed and supervised include, but not limited to basketball (25 teams), soccer (16 teams), softball (75 teams in summer and 45 teams in fall), indoor volleyball (62 teams in fall and 70 teams in winter) and sand volleyball (70 teams in summer).  Youth sports and activities programmed and supervised include, but not limited to, basketball, dance and gymnastics, soccer (spring and fall), summer camps, t-ball, tennis, and volleyball. 

This position includes day, evening, and weekend hours. 

The Parks and Recreation Department manages 37 parks and offers approximately 150 athletic, aquatic, instructional, and wellness programs. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in recreation, sport management, fitness, or related field and one year of experience in a recreation environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

A valid State of Iowa driver’s license required.  Ability to attain CPR and AED certifications.  Salary range: $51,685 - $74,637.  Hiring salary not to exceed$63,160 (midpoint).

The city of Kirksville is seeking to fill a newly created parks and recreation director position made possible through overwhelming citizen support of a parks and recreation sales tax.  Kirksville is located in Northeast Missouri and serves as the county seat of Adair county.  Kirksville is also the regional hub for education, employment, community, and recreational opportunities.  We are a progressive community interested in meeting the wants and needs of our citizens through a more robust parks and recreation program.

The director will work with citizen committees, city manager, and city council to insure the proposed offerings outlined prior to the vote on the ales tax are moved forward with immediate attention toward the plans and subsequent construction of a new aquatic facility, the repurposing of the existing aquatic facility, the maintenance and upkeep of 11 parks (including a baseball/softball complex, playgrounds, skate park, hike/bike trails, and wading pools), covering more than 2,000 acres.

The ideal candidate will be a team-player, a self-starter, and a community advocate willling to foster recreational partnerships throughout the community.  

A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Park Management, Public Administration, Leisure Services, or a closely related field plus at least three years of progressive supervisory and administrative professional experience in municipal recreation and parks management is required.

The city of Newton is looking for a leader with great communication skills to oversee the Parks Division. Under the direction of the Public Works Director, supervises the administration, operation and maintenance of the Parks Division which includes direct oversight of the City park system, Westwood Golf Course, Maytag Pool, cemeteries and park recreational activities. Exercises overall supervision of 8 full-time employees and approximately 50 seasonal employees, and the allocation of employees and equipment in the Parks Division. The person will be part of a team of superintendents in the Public Works Department.

Requires an Associate’s Degree in Recreation Management, Turfgrass Management, Commercial Horticulture, Forestry or related field; or up to and including two years of college or post-secondary education in related field; or equivalent work experience knowledge. Bachelor’s degree in one of these, or related field, preferred. Requires more than four years of prior related experience. Knowledge of, or experience in, grant writing, inter-governmental relations, budgeting, principles of supervision and management.
