2017 Awards Program

Committee is comprised of the three most recent Slattery/Trueblood Outstanding Professional recipients in addition to the two most recent Carole J. Hanson New Professional recipients.

Any IPRA member in good standing may nominate candidates for each award.  The nominees may be endorsed by other members of the IPRA with the exception of Awards Committee members.  Awards Committee members may not nominate, sponsor or write letters of support for nominees.

All nominations are to follow the appropriate criteria listed in the 2017 brochureFollowing information is subject to change.  Descriptions are for historical information only.

The nomination should be typewritten or legibily printed and include the appropriate information as stated for each award.  Nominations should include any supporting data, such as letters of support, copies of news releases, etc.  Each nomination must include the nomination cover sheet, as well as all applicable nomination criteria listed in this brochure.  (Available on IPRA website.)

Please note that nominees for the T. Ray Frame, Claude Ahrens Community Service, Business Support, Lay Organization, Service Club, as well as new Outstanding Part-time Team Member awards need not be members of IPRA;  however, they must be affiliated with a department or staff member that is an IPRA member.

Nomination Criteria

Please be sure to include items 1-5 under ALL AWARDS and also address pertinent information under the specific awards you are nominating.  Other information may be included as criteria for the nomination with the total packet not to exceed fifteen (15 ) pages.

All Awards

  • Statement of your reason for nomination - maximum of 250 words

  • Additional pertinent information will gain a broader vision of the nominee.

  • A maximum of two photographs (as email attachments) which are no larger than 1 MB each will be accepted.

  • A maximum of three (3) letters of support will be accepted.

  • All awards are considered to be competitive with one recipient presented in each category.

Slattery / Trueblood Professional, Dr. Hanson New Professional, and T. Ray Frame Awards - Evaluation Criteria

  • Professional work experience and length of service (which specifically bear on nominee’s qualifications).

  • National, state and local professional park and recreation organization affiliations.

  • Education and/or training.

  • Membership in other organizations, honors, awards, or special accomplishments.

  • Contributions and dedication to the parks and recreation field.

  • Characteristics which make the person outstanding such as ability to work, direct and train others, ingenuity and versatility within all areas of the field.

Claude Ahrens, Business Support, Lay Organization, and Service Club Awards - Evaluation Criteria

  • IPRA membership not required for the recipient.

  • Key individual(s) involved with contributions.

  • Description of financial or in-kind contributions provided for community, county, or state.

  • Describe the impact/benefit of the person, group, or club to the local parks and recreation department.

  • All awards are to be considered competitive with a maximum of one recipient per category.

Outstanding Part-time Team Member Award

Part-time or ongoing seasonal employees are an integral asset to local park and recreation agencies.  These individuals perform necessary duties in providing top quality programs, special events, and other services which full-time staffers do not have the time or financial wherewithal.

Evaluation criteria:

  • Must be a regular part-time employee (less than 30 hours per week on a yearly basis or annual seasonal/program)

  • Cannot be a park maintenance employee

  • Demonstrate via nomination a passion and enthusiasm for the profession, agency, and public

  • Demonstrate leadership in providing quality programming and/or services

  • Demonstrate leadership in developing fellow part-time and/or seasonal employees
     


Slattery / Trueblood Professional Award

The highest professional award in the IPRA program.  The “professional” encompasses many traits.  To be considered for this award, the nominee should be a person who has given of themselves as they work with their clientele.  Their everyday life should exemplify outstanding, dedicated and unselfish service to the profession, community  and to this Association.  IPRA membership required. Nominee must have been a member of IPRA for at least 10 years. 


Dr. Carole Hanson Young Professional Award

Recognizes the professional who has exemplified commitment and outstanding service to the leisure services profession and to this Association.  It is designated for the person who has joined the professional ranks within the past seven (7) years.  IPRA membership required. 


T. Ray Frame Award

The T. Ray Frame award is given to the outstanding maintenance person with a park and recreation department who has demonstrated a high level of skill in his/her work; goes beyond what would be considered adequate or expected in the position; shows a devotion on and off the job.  This is a “blue collar” award designed for an individual in a non-supervisory  or working supervisor position.  IPRA membership not required. 


Claude Ahrens Community Service Award

Formerly known as Lay Person Award.  Recognizes a lay person outside of our profession who has provided support and contribution to the strengthening of programs and resources within their communities, area and state. IPRA membership not required. 


Business Support Award

Designed to recognize a private commercial organization that has contributed to the leisure services profession and enhanced the quality of life within the community, county or state. IPRA membership not required.


Lay Organization Award

Recognizes a group of lay people outside of our profession who have support and contributed to the strengthening of programs and resources of leisure services by an outstanding contribution to the park, recreation and conservation movement within their communities, areas, county and state. IPRA membership not required. 


Service Club Award of Excellence 

This award recognizes a service group outside of our profession who has supported and contributed to the strengthening of programs and resources of leisure services by outstanding contributions to the park, recreation and conservation movement within their communities, areas, county and state.  IPRA membership not required.


Part-time Team Member Award

This award recognizes those individuals who are part-time or ongoing seasonal employees within a parks and recreation department.  These individuals perform necessary duties in providing top quality programs, special events, and other services which full-time staffers do not have the time or financial wherewithal.
