History: Founded in November, 1987 as an Iowa non-profit corporation
Purposes: Scientific, educational and charitable purposes with the meaning of Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 and is organized and operated exclusively for the benefit of and to carry out the purposes for the leisure movement in Iowa by;
1) Promoting and improving leisure opportunities and amenities in Iowa
2) Furthering the course of research and development in all areas of leisure in Iowa
3) Providing scholarships on a nondiscriminatory basis to worthy students enrolled in professional development programs in parks and recreation or related fields of study at post secondary institutions of higher learning in Iowa
4) Facilitating the availability of technical assistance to leisure organizations in Iowa
5) Promoting leisure awareness among the general public of Iowa
Exempt Status: The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) and is exempt from federal income tax and which contributions to which are deductive under Section 170 (c) (2) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986.

20 Year Highlights of Successful Projects:
- Assistance to IPRA to print the history of IPRA’s First 50 Years
- $2,500 donation to the Ahrens Institute for the National Recreation and Park Association Headquarters
- Award of one scholarship from 1997-2007 raising the amount from $600 in the first year to $1,000 in 2007
- Led a two-year, $50,000 fundraising initiative towards renovations and $8,000 towards a maintenance fund for a home in Grinnell (gifted by the Ahrens Foundation) to become the headquarters for the Iowa Park and Recreation Association and the Iowa Amateur Softball Association
Fundraising Events:
- Foundation Golf Tournaments in 2004, 2006 and 2008 raising $5,000-$6,000 per event
- Foundation Texas Hold Em Tournament in 2009 raising $882 for first year event
Action Plan 2009:
1) Promote the Foundation to IPRA members through members and to create new marketing materials
· Make use of existing communication avenues for IPRA membership; web, newsletter, membership directory, etc.
· Update current brochure
· Display Booth at the 2009 Iowa League of Cities Conference along with IPRA
2) Explore Partnerships with affiliated groups in the leisure movement
· Conduct one meeting each month with potential partners
· Make recommendations in the fall, 2009
3) Provide Scholarships/Fellowships
· Outreach to individuals who have never attended an IPRA Training and award of Fellowships towards registration to the 2009 IPRA Conference and 2009 IPRA Workshop, including first year membership
4) Deliver the benefits of parks and recreation to all Iowa communities through partnership with a financial resource which will work with our park and recreation network of 1.8 million citizens to systematically enhance the overall health and well-being of individuals who live, work and play in Iowa communities.
· Specifically, to address the rise in obesity in Iowa (25-29% in 2007).
